Turning Sonar Data into Wearable Art
Client: NORBIT
Industry: Marine Technology
I designed a bold, wearable t-shirt for NORBIT by transforming authentic sonar data of a shipwreck into an illustrated composition featuring sharks and oceanic themes. Balancing technical accuracy with artistic appeal, the design drew high demand at industry conferences and helped extend NORBIT’s brand reach beyond the event floor.

Goal
Design an eye-catching yet wearable t-shirt that promotes the NORBIT brand to a wider audience.
Challenge
NORBIT wanted a t-shirt design that would not only grab attention at industry events but also be stylish enough for people to wear beyond the conference floor. The challenge was to create something unique and visually striking using the WINGHEAD sonar’s shark-inspired logo and bathymetric data, while ensuring the design felt natural on apparel.
Process
To bring the WBMS X’s innovation to life, I developed a multi-layered creative approach.
-
Created detailed 3D animations to visually deconstruct the product, allowing viewers to see the internal components and how they interconnect.
-
Focused on fluid transitions and precision animation to communicate engineering excellence.
-
Led videography direction, ensuring real-life product footage captured the WBMS X in action.
-
Designed and animated motion graphics overlays to highlight key product benefits.
-
Combined technical storytelling with an engaging visual narrative to maintain audience interest.
Impact
High demand for the t-shirts at major industry conferences. Conference attendees organically promoted NORBIT by wearing the design throughout events, extending brand reach. Increased public brand recognition, helping NORBIT stand out in the marine technology space.
